World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Ma Xiaowei, head of China’s National Health Commission, held a telephone conversation on Tuesday. Who thanked China for the call and welcomed the overall outbreak information released by China on the same day.
“Chinese officials provided WHO with information on the COVID-19 outbreak and made the information public through a press conference,” the WHO said in a statement. The information covers a range of topics, including out-patient, in-patient treatment, cases requiring emergency care and intensive care, and hospital deaths related to COVID-19 infection, “it said, vowing to continue to provide technical advice and support to China.
According to a report by the Associated Press on January 14, China reported on January 14 that from December 8, 2022 to January 12, 2023, nearly 60,000 deaths related to COVID-19 occurred in hospitals across the country.
From Dec 8 to Jan 12, 2023, 5,503 people died from respiratory failure caused by the novel coronavirus infection, and 54,435 people died from underlying diseases combined with the virus, according to China’s National Health Commission. All the deaths related to COVID-19 infection are said to have occurred in healthcare facilities.
Jiao Yahui, director general of the medical administration department of the National Health Commission, said the number of fever clinics nationwide peaked at 2.867 million on Dec 23, 2022, and then continued to decline, falling to 477,000 on Jan 12, down 83.3 percent from the peak. “This trend indicates that the peak of fever clinics has passed.”
